The Roof Of Africa (2020)
I was thrilled to be matched with The Roof of Africa as a volunteer over a period of furlough, via Furlonteer.
TROA strives to provide an education to the poorest children in Tanzania, East Africa.
Lending my skills as a Digital Media Officer volunteer, I:
💻 developed, designed, and built a website that was not only easy for the Founders to manage and update, but provided a more user-friendly experience and streamlined the story of the charity with a clear call to action
💡 established a stronger, more consistent image by designing a brand identity that represented Kilimanjaro and the theme of growth
🖊 rewrote the website copy to add depth and clarity
🗣 added a blog feature and launched it with a series telling the story of the history of the charity through an extensive interview with the founder
📧 created templates for different types of newsletters including Sponsorship updates and Campaign updates
This saw website hits increase 300% within 3 days and improved open rates for their newsletters.
UK Music - MAPping!
(2020 - 2021)
🎓 Working closely with UK Music, having been awarded the 2019 Outstanding Music Graduate Award, in 2020 I developed a digital initiative to reach Music Academic Partnership university students.
This project was called MAPPING! and was based on Instagram
🤝 MAPPING! was a virtual collective that connected the next generation of the music industry through conversation and curiosity.
As Editor, I interviewed music industry professionals and created carousel graphics that provided advice for university students on a safe and professional networking platform. Topics included diversity, creativity over lockdown, and making money.
💻 In 2021, we held a MAPPING! virtual conference that featured panels, networking sessions and talks from industry leaders.
Birmingham City University - Music Industries Mentor (2019 - Present)
🎓Invited to be part of an online forum providing advice for students at the School of Media.
The role involves personally mentoring a student on the Music Journalism pathway, as well as attending career days and alumnus days to sit on panels and offer workshopping sessions and one-to-one advice.
BAND ON! (2016 - 2017)
🎫 Having spent most of my teenage evenings at live music events, I recognised that music venues aren't taking the precautions to protect themselves, and their guests, from the consequences of underage drinking.
💗 My campaign, BAND ON! saw me implement an ID checking practice in two Leicester music venues. The check saw those 18+ receive a green glow in the dark wristband and those under 18 or without ID received a pink glow in the dark wristband.
💚 This check allowed venues to make their shows accessible for younger audiences whilst protecting gig-goers and the venue's alcohol licence.
BAND ON! first piloted at sold-out Independent Venue's Day events and received funding from BSEEN. There was also sponsorship from Aspinline and endorsement from UK Music.
In conjunction, I conducted research about opportunities available for young people to gain experience in the arts in Leicester and how to make venues a safe space for them.
